Sangram Singh Makes History in Argentina, Becomes First Indian to Win MMA Fight in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires: MMA icon Sangram Singh created history by becoming the first Indian to win a mixed martial arts fight in Argentina. Competing at a packed Tigre Sports Club Stadium, Singh defeated French fighter Florian Caudier, who is 16 years his junior, in just 1 minute 45 seconds.

This victory marks Singh’s third consecutive MMA win, following triumphs in Tiblisi, Georgia, and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Known for his wrestling expertise, Singh effectively used grappling techniques to dominate the match, ultimately forcing Florian to submit after multiple choke attempts.

Reflecting on the fight, Singh said, “For me, winning or losing doesn’t matter—I either win or I learn. Passion has no age. Achieving the milestone of being the first Indian to win an MMA fight in Argentina is a dream come true.” He also thanked his coach Bhupesh, who has guided him for 25 years, and acknowledged the support from the organizers and his team.

Singh, a two-time Commonwealth heavyweight champion and former world heavyweight wrestling champion, faced additional challenges leading up to the fight. He was 600 grams over the weight limit two days prior and followed a strict regimen, including controlled hydration, rigorous training, yoga, and pranayama, to make weight at 83 kg.

The victory was celebrated with cheers echoing throughout the stadium, including shouts of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, and was witnessed by the Indian ambassador to Argentina and his son. Singh credited his success to discipline, mental focus, and preparation, urging young athletes to adopt the same dedication.

Singh’s MMA journey continues to inspire, showcasing the power of perseverance, training, and passion on an international stage.
